Infotonics Technology Group Hosted

On Friday, September 22, the Station and Cornell Food & Agriculture Technology Park hosted eleven personnel from Canandaigua’s Infotonics Technology Center (ITC) as part of an effort to encourage research collaborations between scientists at Cornell and ITC.

Area teachers endured a week of work at Cornell University's New York State Agricultural Experiment Station (NYSAES) in Geneva last month so students in classrooms across the Finger Lakes can adjust their focus, with or without a microscope.

Fusion Grant Administrator Begins Work This Month This month

Elizabeth "Kitty" Noble comes to the Station as project administrator for the three-year, $600,000 Finger Lakes New Knowledge Fusion Project. The program is designed to engage NYSAES, the Center for Infotonics Technology and a variety of educators and private businesses in the collaborative development of new food and agricultural technologies, new businesses based on such technologies, innovative science curricula in regional schools and increased awareness of cutting-edge science and technology around the Finger Lakes. The program is one of a small number of Partnerships for Innovation funded by The National Science Foundation each year.

New federal grant aims to help Finger Lakes region become economic powerhouse

GENEVA, N.Y. -- With the aim of turning economically disadvantaged central New York into an economic powerhouse, the new Finger Lakes New Knowledge Fusion project is to fund cutting-edge scientific research, new technologies, start-up companies and education for a better workforce to lead the region to new ideas and new prosperity.
The new project is made possible by a three-year, $600,000 grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF).

The economic woes of Central New York have been well documented during recent decades. But if the leaders of the Finger Lakes New Knowledge Fusion project have their way, Central New York will soon become an economic powerhouse fueled by cutting-edge scientifi c research, start-up companies, and an educated workforce leading the region to new ideas and new prosperity. Thanks to a new three-year, $600,000 National Science Foundation (NSF) grant, the Finger Lakes New Knowledge Fusion project can do its part to help revitalize the region with new technologies, new businesses, a prepared workforce, and an informed community.
